Height: 47.5 cm. The GJØA Amundsen expedition carried only six traveling companions. Charged with provisions for three years, the Gjøa left Oslo on June 16, 1903. Her mission: to complete the Northwest Passage route and to take measurements on the Magnetic North Pole. At the end of the summer, they found a natural harbor at King William Island. This bay represented a perfect enclave; for two years, the expedition settled there to carry out scientific research. Among other things, they discovered that the magnetic North Pole is not a fixed point. August 13, 1905, the Gjøa resumed its course towards the west. After spending a winter frozen in ice, he arrived in San Francisco on October 19, 1906, having crossed the Baffin Sea, the Aleutians and the northern Pacific.
