Wooden ship model: Golden Hind - Dusek

The Golden Hind was a ship of Sir Francis Drake during his circumnavigation of the globe between the years 1577-1580. The original name of the ship was Pelican, but Drake renamed it just during the voyage in 1578. 

After struggling through the Straits of Magellan due to terrible storms, during which two ships were wrecked, he docked in the port of Valparaiso. He then sailed along the coasts of Chile and Peru, pillaging Spanish ports and ships and capturing a huge amount of booty. He sailed up to California, probably in an attempt to discover the long-sought northwest passage. He continued his voyage to the Moluccas and Java, rounded the Cape of Good Hope and returned to England after three years, completing his round-the-world voyage.

There are no original plans or construction drawings of the Golden Hind but it is assumed that the ship was about 25 metres long and had a displacement of about 120 tons. The ship was armed with 18 guns of various calibres. This model was essentially reconstructed from the pictures of the Golden Hind on the Hondius world map of 1595.

The box contains all the laser-cut wooden parts, with torques cut according to the angle of the hull, the wooden and metal fittings, with a very detailed plan and instructions in colour photos. The assembly instructions with step-by-step colour photos make building this boat very easy for beginners.
