Product description : Ship model: Battleship USS BB-57 South Dakota 1945
The second "South Dakota" was a first battleship built of a series of 4 ships and basically named after its class. The other battleships of this class being the "Indiana", "Massachusetts" and "Alabama", launched in 1941-42 and completed between March and August 1942. They were engaged in the conflict, partly on the Western Front (As the escort of convoys from Murmansk, near the Arctic Circle) or in the Pacific as in Guadalcanal or in the Philippines. The "South Dakota" which received 13 "battle stars" during the war for its numerous feats of arms in the Pacific being the best known. They were withdrawn from service and demolished in 1962-63, Massachusetts and Alabama being preserved for posterity.
